RMD Excursions 2006

                                             Saturday, April 22, 2006

 

                                           Santa Fe Southern Railway

 

The Rocky Mountain Division is sponsoring a NARCOA  motorcar excursion on the Santa Fe Southern Railway, Santa Fe, New Mexico.  This is an opportunity to ride the rails in beautiful Northern Mew Mexico on Saturday, April 22, 2006.

    Cut-off date for registration will be February 28, 2006

 

Santa Fe Southern Railway will require operators:

- to be NARCOA Rule Book Certified  (bring your current rule book certificate of examination)

- to hold NARCOA liability insurance  ( bring your insurance program identification card)

- all participants to wear a high visibility vest

- all NARCOA rules will be in effect

- the "five minute " breakdown rule will be in effect

Tentative schedule:

6:30am - set on will be for track 7 in Santa Fe, south west of the Santa Fe Depot

8:00am -  safety briefing 8:30am -  leave yard for Lamy

11:00am - arrive Lamy 11:30am -  begin to clear main line, shuttle into track L2 Layover in Lamy includes lunch 1:15pm - depart Lamy for Santa Fe

4:30pm - arrive Santa Fe

 

Cost $70.00 per car, includes lunch in Lamy.  Lunch is a catered affair

put on by the Santa Fe Southern at the outdoor park next to the former

                                        Sept. 2, 2006 (Saturday) - CO

                                                 San Luis Central RR

Set-on will begin at 7:30 AM at The SLCRR offices at 2899 Sherman Ave., Monte Vista, CO followed by safety inspections, signing of liability waivers and a safety meeting.

Departure will be at 9:00AM. We will travel at max track speed for this RR of 10 mph north 12 miles to Center, CO arriving approximately 11:30am for a lunch break. Departure for the return will be at 1:00PM with arrival back at Monte Vista approximately 3:30PM. This railroad aka The Pea Vine moves over 3000 carloads in and out during the year.                                            Sept. 3, 2006 (Sunday) - CO

                     Creede Branch, formerly of the Denver & Rio Grande

Set-on will be at South Fork, CO beginning at 7:30AM at the RR crossing west of Highway 160 followed by safety inspections, signing of liability waivers and a safety meeting. Departure will be at 9:00AM. We will travel approximately 20 miles to the vicinity of Creede, CO arriving about 1PM.  After a lunch break we will return to South Fork arriving approximately 6:PM. This privately held Branch line runs though the Rio Grande valley. Most of our excursion will be on the banks of or within site of the mighty Rio Grande and will traverse some of the most awesome scenery one could want to see. During the lunch break interested participants will be given tours of the historic Wagon Wheel Gap depot which has been beautifully restored by presents owners Doug & Ginny Davlin who are RMD members. The Branch has been the site of several Rocky Mountain Division work parties beginning in the spring in preparation for this excursion. RMD members have removed boulders and brush from the roadbed, replaced and re-gauged rail and added ballast/backfill. Contact Len Jones for reservations. EXCURSION COMPLETED.                October 21 - & possible 22, 2006 (Saturday - Sunday) - CO

                            San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad La Veta Pass

The Rocky Mountain Division will operate a two day speeder excursion on the ex-Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad.  Participants will travel from mile post 190.3, La Veta, to milepost 251.7, Alamosa, CO. Forest Service approved Spark Arrestors will be required on all cars.  25 motorcar limit.  Trip fee $125.00.  This is a NARCOA Insured excursion, and all NARCOA rules will apply.
