July 6, 2011 - CO South Fork, Denver & Rio Grande Railway Historic Foundation South Fork, CO – Rio Grande Summer Run. The Rocky Mountain Division invites you to come follow the Rio Grande river on this historic, and scenic property in the mountains of Colorado. This is a great low key run for mentoring new operators, and a great run to see how your car runs in the mountains. We will arrange the run to travel somewhere between 30 to 40 track miles on this date, traveling from South Fork to Wasson Wye and return . The run will be limited to 25 cars. Checks should be made to "Rocky Mountain Division". NARCOA rules and insurance will be in effect. Spark arrestors will be required. No Hi-Rails. No Smoking. Jon Keeling will be EC. Cost: $140 ($100 for paid RMD members) Your check is your reservation; Fee must be received by EC two weeks prior to the event.
SET ON AND OTHER INFORMATION
Set on will begin at 7:00am at the crossing west of the D&RG Depot in South Fork. The group will stop at Palisades for a rest stop, visit the historic Wagon Wheel Gap Depot for a tour, then procede to the Wasson Wye, turning via one of the last standard gauge stub switches that exists, then return, stopping at Blue Creek Lodge for lunch before returning to South Fork. Trailer parking is available near the set on point. This is a high elevation run that is all above 8000 feet, so pace yourself, drink plenty of water, and bring sunscreen.
