Santa Fe Southern Railway
Lamy, NM (Santa Fe area)- The Rocky Mountain Division invites you to a
NARCOA insured & NARCOA rules motor car excursion on the Santa Fe Southern
Railway, Sunday April 19, 2009. This will be a great chance to shake off the cob
webs from the speeders that have been dormant all winter & enjoy the great
spring time weather in the Santa Fe New Mexico area. We will start setting on at
7:30 am in Lamy, New
Mexico & make two round trips between Lamy & Rabbit Rd (which is just
south of
Interstate 25). Making two round trips, we will be running about 60 total track
miles & we will have only one major road crossing to make. The cost for the
excursion will be $100. I must have a minimum of 10 cars committed by the middle
of March, or I will need to cancel the excursion. Detailed announcement with set
on directions & hotel/motel & camping choices will be sent once ten car minimum
is met.

Run Details:
We will start setting on promptly at 7:30 am in Lamy.
Please be in Lamy around 7:15 am.
To reach Lamy take exit 290 off of Interstate Hwy 25 & head South on Hwy 285
about 8 miles to the Lamy township turnoff & drive to the Amtrak depot. We will
access to the restrooms in the Lamy Depot before starting the excursion & there
is an outhouse at Rabbit Rd. After our first round trip we will break for lunch
between 11:15 & 12:30 pm in Lamy. There is a dinning car/restaurant at the depot
that will have various lunch items available for purchase or you can bring your
own lunch. We should complete our second round trip around 2:45 & then load up &
head for home or back to the hotels. For Saturday night lodging, all of the
hotel/motel accommodations are in Santa Fe New Mexico off of exit 278 &
Interstate Hwy 25 on Cerrillos Rd. There is a bunch of hotel/motel choices
including Motel 6, Super 8, Best Western, La Quinta & many others. I liked the
parking at the Super 8 & the Best Western has a dirt lot next to the hotel with
lots of room for trucks & trailers but its up to you where you want to stay. Dry
camping is available by the Depot in Lamy. Please come on out & enjoy the ride
on this historic branch line.
